Help! I suck at the internets.

Good morning lovelys!

So today I have been thinking about the internets (who hasn’t?). Since allisondoty.com still isn’t up (NEVER buy a Western Digital Hard Drive) I now have many different options as to how to start my new website from scratch.

Here’s what I’m thinking… Either I do it the best way I know how — building a website completely out of images, and just dealing with a slower loading time and inflexibility — or I make my own template, download WordPress, read WordPress for Dummies, learn some new stuff, and hope that my website will be running within 20 years (and by then WordPress will be comparable to a Commodore 64). Ah, decisions.

I like something like this a lot — Check out this designer’s wordpress site.

What do you all think? I need feedback!

Do it, Roy! Nobody ever got hurt by having more skillz that could theoretically pay the bills. Besides, ImageReady slice & surf is for n00bs. You’re not a n00b, are you?

Shiiiiiiii- They don’t even make ImageReady anymore. You can do most WordPress with some CSS.

Make sure you know how CSS hooks work, understand that you just don’t touch things within PHP tags unless you have to, read some WP tuts to understand the file structure, download sandbox (http://www.plaintxt.org/themes/sandbox/) and make sure to read their instruction manual. Then have your mind blowed.

I made most of my admittedly simple WP theme one night while procrastinating on ads homework.

The best way I’ve learned Web design is by going to blogs or sites you like and Ctrl (or Apple) + U like there’s no tomorrow. That gives you A Web site’s source code so you can see how they designed their site. Also you can copy and paste some cool Web design ideas and tweak them to fit your own style.

Like Tyra says: “Steal from the best and make it your own.”

Ctrl + U has taught me about 75% of my Web design stuff.
